Priya Murle Biography:
Smt Priya Murle, a performer, a teacher, and a choreographer has been in the field of Bharatanatyam for over four decades. A senior disciple of Professor. Sudharani Raghupathy, with Priya's intense training and commitment to the art form, she has carved a special niche in the field of natyam.
A student of music, she has been trained by the Carnatic doyen Padmabhushan Vidwan Sri Madurai N. Krishnan. Priya has done her M.Phil in Philosophy, focusing on Indian Aesthetics and Rasa Theory. She has traveled the world, giving performances, lecture demonstrations, and workshops. Priya has choreographed several thematic and group programs.
She has trained many international students as part of the faculty, training students for Colgate University, Hamilton, NY at her Alma Mater . Priya was part of the Bharatanatyam faculty at Women’s Christian College training an exchange student from Eastern University, USA, for a semester. She has conducted the Ranga Pravesham of a US diplomat in 2020 when she was posted in Chennai.
Priya has many awards to her credit. A few of them are, Yuva Kala Bharathi, Nadanamamani, Vani Kala Nipuna, Bharatakala Bhushana, and the Rukmini Devi Arudale Award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. She received the Tamil Nadu State Government Award - The Kalaimamani Title- 2019. As the Artistic Director of Shri Silambam, Priya inspires and motivates her students to pursue the Thanjavur Tradition of Bharatanatyam with a passion.
Priya was the Convenor for the Natyadarshan conference, Kadamba, conducted by the KARTIK fine Arts for two years .. 2018 and 2019. The conference was very well received and was hailed by the natyam fraternity. Along with Shreya Nagarajan Singh, Priya has started an initiative - Parivartan Research Initiative that provides Annual short-term grants for research scholars.
Priya is actively involved in outreach programs that make classical dance accessible to all. She is a guest faculty at Silambam, Houston. Priya is the Vice President of the Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India (ABHAI).
